Excerpt from The Historical and Secret Memoirs of the Empress Josephine, Vol. 2 of 2: Marie Rose Tascher De La Pagerie
This curious passage must not, however, be regarded as a prophecy. The Roman orator merely puts it into the mouth of Scipio Africanus, whom he introduces in a dream to Publius Cornelius Scipio, just before the latter de stroyed Carthage, and while he was heading the expedition against that injured and ill-fated country. The old Africanus, in the same interview, gives utterance to a sentiment which, though perhaps less orthodox than patriotic, seems worthy of being quoted as applicable both to Napoleon and the false friends who deserted him in his hour of need.
